I stared at my reflection in the mirror. My eyes were sore and blood-shot red from crying with eyeliners smudged at the corners which took me 14 tries this morning to do perfectly, my hair, which took me nearly half an hour to comb neatly, is now disheveled, making me look like a ghost.
But was it really these that made me look like a ghost? It's HIM. Why does he always have to meddle in my life? Unlike the people my age, who enjoy their life almost partying every day, I'm pushing myself too hard to be successful but why couldn't my father see it? Was he so blinded by his business that he forgot to think about me? Anyway, I'm not gonna give up this easily to them. One day, I'll win something huge and that bastard will be the one, crying.
I went to freshen up, the warm water at least soothed my physical pain if not the emotional pain, I changed into fresh clothes and lay on my bed, as soon as my back hit the soft mattress underneath, the tiredness vanished into thin air, the sleep completely taking over. I was about to doze off when the door burst open, I was startled and looked up to find my little idiotic sister.
"Don't you know to knock on the door before entering someone's room?" I asked her with irritation, clearly lacing my voice. "Don't you know how to lock the door?" I'm not in the mood to put up with her shits now. "What do you want now?" " How did your meeting go?" "Didn't mom tell you?" I asked her because I knew that my mom would surely have informed her and still this punk came here to make fun of me.
Haa What can we expect from the siblings other than this? " Seri vidu andha bro vandhaaley nee out uh nu unaku theriyaadha aprm ethuku azhuthu scene podra???" She's dead now.
*(ok ok leave it, you should've known better than to meddle with that bro than making a scene of crying now sis)*
"Leave before I do something we both might regret later Yazhini" I warned her."Do I look like I'd care, nahhh." she stuck her tongue out to tease me. That's it she pulled the last string.
AUTHOR'S POV:
A pillow hit Yazhini directly on the face, making her stumble back and fall. "Yes, headshot!!" Yashna laughed, her sister pouted being defeated, and was about to throw a fist at her when their mother caught her hand midway. "What's this Yazhini? And Yashna you too, you are the elder one here. Act like one. Always picking fights with each other. Come down and eat. Both of you. NOW!"
"Seri maa" both replied in unison.
*(ok ma)*
They both glared at each other as if telling one another that this will continue after dinner. "Yashna you're the elder one, act like one" Yazhini said in a mock-tone to rile up her already annoyed sister even more which earned her a death glare from her sister. Well what's more interesting and entertaining than annoying your sibling.
As they both descended to the dining room, with their parents already seated. Her father, Jayprakash, looked at her as if he was waiting for her arrival.
They both got to take their seat opposite their parents. And their mother, Shanthi served everyone idlis and sambar on their plates. There was this deafening awkward silence between the four of them, Shanthi and Yazhini wouldn't even dare to speak a single seeing both the dad-daughter duo and the tension between them. And the silence was broken by Jayprakash,
"I got to hear that you los-, I mean he won again...?", he said it more like a statement than a question he would've wanted to know, without even raising his head or his eyes to see her and talk, to which she answered it, "You heard it right then" in a neutral tone.
"Well, it's still not too late to come to my company right, Yashna? Why go and work till your bones in that company when you can-", her dad continued, the same statement repeated for years and was interrupted by her, "Don't you have your younger daughter to do that for you? Leave me." "I'm your father Yashna, will I be someone who wants my own daughter to fail? I know what will be the best for you", without replying to him, she got up, completing her dinner went to the kitchen to wash her plate and returned back to her room shutting herself from the world for the day.
And her dad sighed in annoyance at hearing the same response from her every time he asked the same question, got up after completing his dinner, and went to his room after washing his hands.
Shanthi and Yazhini could do nothing but watch as these two bickered as usual. "Same question, same answer, different day, repeat-uh", Yazhini said to her mother to which they chuckled bitterly. "I really hope one day these two compromise with each other in this matter, " Shanthi said in a defeated tone, seeing her daughter and her husband having different opinions and won't compromise anything from changing their opinion.
"Vidu maa, time changes, people will change, directly proportional to each other" Yazhini tried to console her mother. Though she fights with her sister all the time, the sisters' relationship is pure, she cares and loves her as much as she loves to annoy the heck out of her.
*(leave it maa)*
On the parallel side, there was this man who had no problems like these, but instead sitting in a restaurant with his team having dinner with no care.
"Thank you so much boss, I was thinking of ways to skip dinner at my home...its Thursday which means my wife would've made upma again", "at least its once a week upma for you, my wife makes it every single day.." and the entire team including a stoic person like him...laughed as those two from the team spoke up.
AUTHOR’S POV
Just like that, days had passed and Yashna worked extra hard to get another deal even though she knew that Rudradev would never let her get it easily. And she would keep on trying no matter what because losing isn't something new to her and she’s ready to lose because after every time she lost to him that only fueled her more determination to win.
YASHNA'S POV
I heaved a sigh of annoyance checking the traffic light for the nth time to see whether it has turned into green but oh lord, this fcking little red heart glowing there doesn't seem to be turned off. It's cute I accept but it's really annoying. I have been waiting here for almost 30 minutes and I'm already annoyed to pick up that little idiotic sister of mine and here this traffic, making it even worse. Let me atleast maybe take a snap of it for my streaks. Illa enakku puriyala (no , wait i dont understand this) No way in hell this is happening. Why the heck did the light change right now after all this time. Yashna CONTROLLLLLL. Just then I heard the whistle indicating the green light is on and atleast I'm free from the traffic yeahhhh.
Time skip 15 minutes.
“Wooww, you got chocolates here?” Yazhini said, taking out the chocolates from the dash box of my car. “Do not touch it. That's mine.” I was about to snatch it from her when she pulled her arm moving backward. “ enna unodathu ellaam namma appa vaangi kuduthathu yashuuu”
She cooed. (what do you mean its yours yashu...its all OUR father's money isn't it)
“Well, to your kind information I bought it myself with my hard earned money, velakkenna naaye (caster oil idiot)” and before I could get it from her again, she tossed it into her mouth. Goddddd wasn't I at least deserved to eat a chocolateeee. “Achachooo hard earned money vaithukulla poiducheyy Ippo enna pandrathu” “Stop, Yazhini” (achachoo, all your hard earned money is now in my stomach...what should we do now hmm..)
“HAHAHAHAHAHA” she laughed like a witch. Nope. She's a witch. I'll deal with her once we reach home. Suddenly my phone started buzzing and it's a call from the manager. Why is he calling me now? He doesn't usually call me at this hour. Something must have happened.
I took the call “Hello?” “Yes sir, is there anything that you would like me to help with?” “ Yashna It's actually about the upcoming project. This is really important for us, to be precise, for you. This project has been acknowledged as important by our CEO himself and he wants it to be done perfectly. So I want you to report the progress everyday to me and kindly pause your little games with Rudradev for a while. I hope you understand.” “Yes sir.” I mumbled low. “good”
With that the line went dead. Pause my little game with Rudradev, what does that bald head think of me, a 7 year old, picking up fights with everyone. No. CONTROLL...Yashna control. Calm down. You can do it. You will win against him this time.

for the little confusions that some might have over up:
since the story is based in the city of Chennai and hence the little red heart reference. Since we have a red heart coming up in the signal instead of an actual red signal.
and the velakkena naaye, is a term used btw friends and siblings mainly to insult them but i didnt know how to translate it to english so that literal translation goes as castor oil dog or an idiot.
